DESCRIPTION:A Free Tour of MICAS! \n\n\nThe Malta International Contempor
ary Art Space (MICAS) opened its doors to the public in late 2024\, streng
thening Malta’s cultural infrastructure with a platform for contemporary
art and internationalisation. Marrying contemporary architecture with the
historical fabric of the 17th century Floriana fortifications\, MICAS ena
bled Malta to take a great step forward to become a proactive player in th
e world of international contemporary art. The opening exhibition was by t
he Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos\, whose works joined other acquisit
ions on display at MICAS\, by Ugo Rondinone and Conrad Shawcross. In the s
ix years running up to its opening\, MICAS’s annual art weekends also ho
sted international artists Pierre Huyghe\, Cristina Iglesias\, and Michele
Oka Doner\, setting the tone to the institution’s ambitions. A sculptur
e by the renowned Maltese artist Ray Pitrè\, greets visitors upon entranc
e to the complex.\nMICAS’s mission is to energise Malta’s cultural eco
logy and impact that of the Euro-Mediterranean region it inhabits. As an a
dvocate of contemporary art\, MICAS seeks to raise public awareness to the
significance of the visual arts in contemporary life\, bringing to the fo
refront the way art and artists help interpret the world we live in.\n\n\n
